| Item Description: | The author, whose preface is signed "Isaac Bickerstaff," was Benjamin West. Cf. Nichols, C.L. "Notes on the almanacs of Massachusetts." Proceedings of the American Antiquarian Society, n.s. volume 22 (1912): 34-35, and the Dictionary of American biography. The calendar page notes correspond to a significant extent with those in West's The New-England almanack, or Lady's and gentleman's diary, for 1773 (Providence). The calculations for the moon's place, rising, and setting, are identical, though the others vary, being for Boston rather than Providence. There is little correspondence in the eclipse notes. Advertised in the Boston evening post, Oct. 5, 1772. Parentheses substituted for square brackets enclosing the price statement. Electronic resource. |
