| Item Description: | Though attributed by Evans to Benjamin West, the almanac was calculated by Nathanael Low. The material concerning eclipses and conjunctions on page [2] and the calculations on the calendar pages are identical with those in Low's An astronomical diary or almanack for 1782 (Boston), though the notes in the third column on the calendar pages differ entirely. Also issued by Russell for the same year under title, Russell's American almanack, with contents and typography identical except for the title page and variant text on page [24]. Title vignette: portrait of Phillis Wheatley. The poem 'America invincible,' earlier portions of which appeared in Bickerstaff's Boston almanack for 1779 (Russell) and Russell's American almanack for 1780 and 1781, is here continued on pages [17-19]. A final installment appeared in Bickerstaff's Boston almanack for 1783. The poem was issued separately by Russell in 1779. Bookseller's advertisement, page [24]. Electronic resource. |
