Nightingale: tells the story of a lonely Emperor and the captivating songbird that comes to live in his palace. The Emperor is entranced by the sweetness of the nightingale's song until a dazzling mechanical bird with a wind-up song comes between them.
The little match girl: this tale is given present-day relevance and an upbeat ending in the story of Angela, a homeless child who sells match sticks to survive.
The red shoes: this tale is given a modern setting in the story of Lisa, a little black girl, who learns the value of friendship with help from a pair of magic slippers.
