| Summary: | This study explored the effects of health-related quality of life, gender, and age on emotional functioning and depression, as well as the influence of health-related quality of life and pessimistic attitude on overall emotional functioning. Screening instruments used for assessing emotional distress in patients were examined. Results indicated that health-related quality, age, and gender were predictors of emotional functioning, but gender was not a predictor of depression. Further, pessimism acted as a mediator variable between health-related quality of life and emotional functioning. Finally, the BDI-II and BDI-FastScreen were demonstrated to have high inter-rater reliability, but the two instruments exhibited disagreement in the classification in nearly 26% of the cases. |
