|a The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the Decision Theatre Method of Learning on freshmen enrolled in an orientation to college course at Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, Texas. The population for this study included 372 students enrolled in 18 sections of the orientation course. Chi-square statistics were used for this study. A review of the literature indicated that a number of different methods relating to the instruction of adult learners at the university level are being used with some level of success. However, it does not appear that anyone is precisely duplicating the Decision Theatre Method of Learning. Three research questions and 11 ancillary research questions were explored in this study. The following recommendations are based on this study: 1. A combination or a blending of instructional methods should be used. 2. Learning styles and learning preferences should be considered. 3. Increased adaptability and flexibility in the classroom will be needed to enhance and improve the learning experience. The recommendations for further study include: 1. This study should be replicated using a graduate level course, either a master's or doctoral. In addition to persistence data, additional information such as grade point averages (GPA) should be explored. 2. Further research is needed to answer the question, "Does the freshman orientation course offered at the university have any impact on students persisting to their third, fifth, and final (graduation) semester?" 3. Further research is needed to answer the question, "Is the Theatre of the Oppressed Method of Learning and the Decision Theatre Method of Learning one and the same?" 4. Anytime that the Decision Theatre is used in a learning activity, data should be actively collected and categorized so that researchers can perform the necessary analyses on the effectiveness of the learning.
