Turn of the century /
The Vienna of Mahler and Wolf, Freud, Klimt, and Kokoschka, and Richard Strauss and Schoenberg was slow to accept modernism. While the Viennese found the operetta The Merry Widow pleasant and relaxing, they ignored, hooted at, or walked out on the emerging new sounds.
