| Summary: | The primary purpose of this record of study was to evaluate the impact of effective current and potential avenues of communication from Southside Heritage Elementary School campus to the community at large. Data were gathered through the use of a mailed out questionnaire to 278 selected residents who were residents of the campus and who met the legal requirements to be registered voters in the State of Texas, County of Bexar. The questionnaire was formulated to include four sections. The first section gathered data on demographics, the second section on current avenues of communication, the third on potential avenues of communication, and lastly, the fourth section sought written opinions or suggestions from the respondents. Analysis of the data was gathered from the 180 returned surveys from respondents in the community and revealed that respondents perceive information received from school employees, campus newsletters, information posted on school grounds, and from weekly campus newsletters as the most used current avenue of communication. The least utilized current avenues of communication were the yearly public meeting and campus CPOC meeting minutes. The most effective current avenue of communication was perceived to be information from school employees while the least effective avenue of communication was perceived to be yearly public meetings. Of the ten choices listed on the questionnaire, the respondents perceived the telephone hotline to be the most effective potential avenue of communication and CPOC meeting minutes posted at community centers to be the least effective potential avenue of communication. The demographic parent group perceived and identified two potential avenues of communication as effective: a campus open house with invitations mailed and a campus telephone hotline. The demographic group of respondents who expect to have a child enrolled in the future perceived and identified two potential avenues of communication as effective: a campus marquee and a campus website. There was no identified difference in perceptions of effectiveness by gender; therefore, based on the data gathered, males and females see the potential avenues of communication equally. |
