| Item Description: | The titlepage is engraved. Sig. B is headed by engravings of 'The ancient seal of the city of Glocester'; a variant sig. B was issued headed by the ancient and modern arms of the city of Glocester. Taken chiefly from 'Ancient and present state of Glostershire' by Sir Robert Atkyns and 'A new history of Gloucestershire' by Samuel Rudder. Compiled by Sir George Napier. Coats of arms engraved by Ames of Bristol. A proposal for this work was published bearing the title: 'A proposal for publishing by subscription, a collection of coats of arms'. With a list of subscribers, and a slip bound into the prelims., "The second volume will be published as soon as possible", apparently never published.
