| Summary: | The primary purpose of this study was to examine manifest variables identified by stakeholders that influence adult participation in community education classes in four school districts in Bexar County, Texas. A secondary purpose was to examine community education administrators' perception of manifest variables that influence stakeholders participating in community education classes. Participants for the primary investigation were 385 stakeholders selected from the four participating school districts. Seven community education administrators from the participating school districts comprised the secondary population. Stakeholders and administrators responded to questionnaires that provided data for this research. Research findings of this study: 1. The manifest variables used to identify stakeholders in this study were found to be viable but not exclusive tools to describe community education participants in the four school districts surveyed. 2. Stakeholders participating in community education programs surveyed were found to be well satisfied with the classes they attended. 3. Community education administrators of community education programs surveyed were found to be knowledgeable of indicators that identify stakeholder satisfaction. Recommendations for further study: 1. Studies of this type conducted for adults who are not participants in community education programs within a school district should be studied in order to define that population, as well as determine their educational, recreational, and vocational training needs. 2. Program staff, including administrative and instructional personnel, should undertake training in adult instruction techniques and methods. 3. A longitudinal study of stakeholders extending over several semesters be undertaken to evaluate the long-term impact of community education programs. |
