| Summary: | This study is concerned with developing a predictive model for depth of penetration of mines in soft sediments. The primary objective of this numerical study is to model soil resistance as a function of penetration depth using the finite element method. The process of developing a finite element model to simulate the soil resistance during mine penetration is described in this thesis. The finite element studies are evaluated and calibrated to available analytical solutions. Parallel experimental studies have been conducted, and the finite element solutions will be calibrated to the experimental measurements in a later study. |
