| Summary: | The reciprocal relationship between unemployment status and negative self-feelings is examined under the moderating effects of locus of control. The participants were drawn from responses in the fourth and seventh waves of data collection from a large longitudinal survey in the southwestern United States. The LISREL VIII computer program is used in conducting the analyses. The results support the hypothesis that locus of control has a moderating effect on the influence of unemployment status on negative self-feelings. However, a significant difference in the effect of negative self-feelings on unemployment status across the two locus of control groups was not found. Two demographic variables, gender and minority status, are controlled in the hypothesized model. The implication of the results of control variables and stability effects of unemployment status and negative self-feelings are discussed as well as the hypothesized main reciprocal effects. |
