Description
Summary:The goal of this research is to determine whether lighting styles from traditional media can be effectively interpreted in computer-generated scenes. Five paintings and a film still were carefully analyzed for their lighting styles, and scenes following these styles were recreated using the computer. Other factors, such as modeling and texturing, were simplified so that the focus of the research rested on lighting alone. By comparing the lighting in scenes with neutral and monochromatic texturing and in more abstract scenes bearing little resemblance to the original paintings, it is possible to see how lighting can serve to further the main story intent and mood of a scene.
