| Summary: | A software interface named Chromidio is developed in this thesis that enables the user to easily extract numerical color and motion data from a prerecorded QuickTime movie on disk. Chromidio outputs this data in a format that allows users of Max/MSP software to quickly translate it into messages for the control of MIDI device parameters that may relate to audio mixing and spatial effects, note generation, program changes or similar functions, or to other MIDI functions unrelated to sound. Chromidio also permits the user to key frame settings over the course of a movie as a tracked object changes color over time. A companion Max patch named C.play is also developed. C.play is equipped to interpret Chromidio's output and translate it into MIDI messages with minimal effort. C.play can also be edited to facilitate the control of audio synthesis and signal processing functions for users of MSP audio extensions. Chromidio and C.play facilitate the production of a movie soundtrack, as the user can direct Chromidio to track a particular object within the QuickTime movie and then use its numerical output to generate MIDI messages corresponding to the motion and color of that object. |
