| Summary: | Initially, 21 candidate genes were identified for QTLs affecting different fatness traits in cattle. Eight of these genes were physically mapped using fluorescent in situ hybridization. Markers were developed for three of these genes. These markers were genotyped in the Angleton population and interval analysis was performed to find associations between these markers and fatness QTLs. No significant associations were found between the novel markers and QTLs. However, the SSCP found for LPL mapped to a region of BTA8 which had two effects, one on percentage of ether extractable fat and one on percentage palmitate, which had a LOD score that approached significance. The microsatellite identified for SCD mapped to a region of BTA26 which had a small effect on percentage palmitate. |
