Description
Summary:A model in which several individual difference variables (e.g., shyness, loneliness) and physical attractiveness were hypothesized to both directly and indirectly (through three mediating variables) affect dating frequency was tested in college students. Consistent with predictions, the individual difference variables and physical attractiveness predicted dating frequency for both men and women, and physical attractiveness appeared to most strongly influence the dating frequency of women. Unexpectedly, the mediating variables did not impact dating frequency for either sex. Implications of the model and suggestions for future research are discussed.
