| Summary: | The purpose of this study was to compare the differences among teachers' and administrators' beliefs on teachers' time use during a typical school day, relating their beliefs with the recommendation from the literature on teachers' time use, and comparing these findings with the actual time use of special education teachers. This study was an initial step in determining actual time use trends for specific teacher activities using the 3T-S: Teacher Time-Tracking in Special Programs. Thirteen teachers from five school districts in South Central Texas self tracked their time for two 5-day periods defined as "typical weeks" during one school year. These teachers, along with their building administrators, responded to questions about their beliefs on teacher time use using the Time Use Questionnaire (TUQ). Teacher Education textbooks were reviewed to determine suggested time use for preservice teachers. Analysis of the data collected from the 3T-S and the TUQ was presented as a quantitative analysis. Results indicated that teachers and administrators have significant differences in beliefs about time use. The beliefs of teachers and administrators were different than actual time use for several activities. Results show that teachers' activities over the two 5-day recording periods were very different. |
