Description
Summary:In this work we investigate, the nonlinear, elastic deformation of a cone made of a Neo-Hookean material. We use a semi-inverse method and assume a specific form of the displacement and the corresponding structure of the pressure field inside the cone. The pressure field has a logarithmic term in it. In the absence of the logarithmic term the deformation was found to be homogeneous, inhomogeneous deformation being possible when the logarithmic term is present in the pressure field. Also the effect of the semi-vertex angle of the cone on the final deformed shape is studied. Non-unidirectional deformations are found to be possible for certain values of the semi-vertex angle of the cone, reminiscent of the analogous problems in fluid mechanics.
