"C-6. This map was developed by Brevet Major W.H. Emory from his own itinerary of the Southwest Territories and the most up to date information available at that time. The map is noted for its depiction of the whole Western Country south of the Oregon border. It was through Emory's effort that the Southwest lost its status as an unknown quantity."
