| Summary: | Charles Franklin Lewis received preliminary training as a naval aviator at the Naval Air Training Center, Corpus Christi, Texas, and further training at Transitional Training Squadron Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia. As a pilot of a PBM Martin Mariner navy flying boat, Lewis served with the VP-207 patrol squadron, mainly in the Panama Canal Zone and Bermuda, particularly providing aerial escort for convoys. Lewis retired from the Navy at the end of the war and retuned to live in Bryan, Texas, resuming his work with the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station and the United States Department of Agriculture. |
