Description
Summary:This study examined the role of attitudes and experience in affecting perceptions of fairness and price acceptability for varying levels of campground fees for different amenity levels. Specifically, this study attempted to determine respondent characteristics, including price consciousness, general attitudes towards fees, and selected demographic characteristics that best explain their judgements of a "fair price" for a specific campground package. A survey was designed, pre-tested and administered to a random sample of campground users at Corps of Engineers campgrounds throughout the United States. Price levels based on emotional responses were considered in context to these different levels. Ten percent of the price campground users were willing to pay was the result of fee attitudes or demographic variables such as age, gender, income, and education. In general, attachment to the campground quality of the campground facilities, and preference for the campground at which the questionnaire was administered were not significant predictors of the fee that users were willing to pay.
