| Summary: | Muskat Method : We provide the analytical validation for the Muskat method used to estimate the average reservoir pressure using pressure buildup data. In this work, we derive a general Muskat equation for a general bounded rectangular reservoir with the well at an arbitrary location. Our general Muskat equation can be used to construct the single-exponential Muskat equation for various rectangular reservoir/well configurations. We provide validation of this work using numerical reservoir simulation. Multiwell Solution: We develop a new rigorous solution for the modeling of individual well performance and the analysis of production data from a well in a multiwell bounded reservoir system. Formulation of the solution is general and takes into account the pressure/rate profiles complexity of any (constant rate, constant pressure, variable-rate/pressure) of all wells. Validation is provided via comparison with results of numerical simulation. Pressure Buildup Analysis in a Multiwell Reservoir System : We also demonstrate the development and application of a new solution for the analysis and interpretation for wells that exhibit "well interference" effects such as a decline in pressure during a pressure buildup test. Our new solution treats the "interference effect" as a regional pressure decline and we show that this solution does accurately represent the well interference effects observed in many of the well tests obtained at Arun Field, Indonesia. Furthermore, this solution is shown to provide a much more consistent interpretation of well test data from a multiwell reservoir system than the existing approaches-i.e., the assumption of no flow or constant pressure boundaries, data truncation, etc. Decline Type Curve Analysis in a Multiwell Reservoir System : This dissertation also demonstrates the estimation of original-oil/gas-in-place by analyzing production data from only a single well in a multiwell system. Reservoir properties such as flow capacity can also be estimated. Our new method alleviates problems caused by competing production wells (e.g. the dependency of individual well reserves on the production schedule in a multiwell system). This issue is resolved by introducing a "total material balance time," defined as the field cumulative production divided by the rate for an individual well. |
