Description
Summary:A feasibility study of utilizing synthetic jet actuators as a mean to mitigate disturbances that can cause instability and turbulent flow is described. Prediction of flow transition via linear stability theory was performed by solving the Orr-Sommerfeld equation. The development of a sensor-actuator control system unit using synthetic jet actuators for flow transition control was studied. The implementation of the disturbance generator using a DC motor for the generation of a desired frequency of the disturbance was conducted. The target frequency and the corresponding free stream speed were chosen according to the linear stability theory. The implementation of the open-loop actuator controller was studied. Test operations of tracking the reference signal were examined. The study of the open-loop sensor-actuator controller including a hot film sensor was conducted.
