Description
Summary:The major purpose of this study was to examine how participation in the Texas A&M University Community and Technical College: Minority Leadership Development Program (TAMU-MLDP) was perceived by the participants ten years after completion of the program. More specifically, this study investigated the perceptions of the participants in the following areas: (a) overall quality of the leadership development program; (b) importance of the components of the TAMU-MLDP; and (c) components which were the most and least useful to their present job. Furthermore, this study ascertained the effects of the variables, ethnicity and gender, on the perceptions of participants with regard to leadership preparation, pursuit or completion of a graduate school program, and information regarding career progression and promotions. Forty-two fellows participated in this empirical study. A survey design was employed to collect and analyze the data. A modified survey of the program's original program evaluation instrument was employed. Seven research questions were used to guide the study and six null hypotheses were formulated. The data was tested through the application of Percentage Analysis and t-test of Independent Samples. Among the conclusions of the study were that the fellows perceived the TAMU-MLDP as effective in the acquisition of leadership skills, job competencies necessary for advanced leadership positions, and influenced the pursuit of graduate studies. The findings indicated, in part, that 90% of the fellows would recommend the program to others and that 80% of the fellows were satisfied with the preparation they receiveThe major purpose of this study was to examine how participation in the Texas A&M University Community and Technical College: Minority Leadership Development Program (TAMU-MLDP) was perceived by the participants ten years after completion of the program.
