Summary:Philip II of Spain marries Elisabeth de Valois, who was engaged to his son, the Infante, Don Carlos. In trying to secure freedom for the Netherlands, Carlos is arrested. Escaping, he meets Elisabeth secretly, but they are spied upon, and only the apparition of his grandfather, Charles V, saves Carlos from the Inquisition. Also includes an eight minute special program at the end: Verdi at Sant' Agata.
