Description
Summary:The Woodstock Festival of 1969 and the twenty-oh anniversary event of 1994 have had great cultural impact on society. However, analysis within the sociological field is limited. This thesis examines both the 1969 festival and the 1994 event using Jean Baudrillard's concepts of simulation and hyperreality. It delves into each occurrence to determine whether they were real events with real emotions, or reduced to simulated events, without meaning or referent. The media's role and influence is examined in conjunction with both events. In addition, aspects of culture and postmodernism are discussed.
