| Summary: | This research examined the agreement between the Diagnostic Assessment for the Severely handicapped- II (DASH-II) and the current psychological diagnoses of a population of individuals with mental retardation. The DASH-II is an 84 item questionnaire that rates an individual in terms of frequency, duration, and severity on thirteen scales indicating areas of potential psychological disturbance. The DASH-II was found to agree with the current diagnoses of individuals 48.6% of the time. Reliability of the DASH-II was also investigated. It was found that while the interrater reliability of the DASH-II was adequate, the test-retest reliability was low. Additional analysis of the data indicated that the DASH-II was less likely to identify a problem when none had been previously diagnosed, than to indicate no psychological problem when a problem had been previously identified. |
