| Summary: | Several new concepts and techniques for multi-area power system reliability evaluation and production simulation are proposed in this dissertation. First a new framework for multi-area power system reliability evaluation is proposed by identifying five properties of the multi-area state space. This framework provides the Foundation for the subsequent research. Secondly, a new flexible and efficient algorithm to find the loss of load probability of a given area or a set of areas is proposed. Thirdly, a method to improve the system reliability evaluation is presented based on Four new concepts. Fourthly, using a boundary concept, a powerful algorithm has been implemented to calculate the load loss frequency and duration for a give area or the entire system. The last contribution comes from the development of a direct method to calculate the production cost and marginal cost in interconnected power systems. All the techniques are tested using the IEEE-RTS system. |
