Description
Summary:This study explores the meaning and use of momentum in the organizational change literature. The disciplines of organizational development, strategic change, and organizational theory are combined from an organizational change perspective. The resulting framework describes three interrelated gelds of study (strategic OD, organizational transformation, and organizational adaptation) within a broader discipline of organizational change. This multidisciplinary framework is then used to critically review existing momentum research and to develop an alternative definition and hypotheses, Results of a longitudinal field study provide evidence that managerial interventions (i.e., kickoff-meetings, formal briefings), progress, commitment, and interaction are all associated with perceptions of momentum. Implications of these results and future research suggestions are provided.
