| Summary: | This initial investigation identified ten key high-payoff, high visibility C-SHRP and SHRP products and quantified their benefits for selected Canadian provincial highway agencies as well as for the country. The ten key products evaluated represent pavements, asphalt, and concrete and structures technology areas. The evaluation was done in the form of case studies. The expected present worth of benefits from the ten leading products evaluated in this study, considering risk factors, was estimated to be $24.7 million CAD in the five-year period between 1999 and 2003, and $56.2 million CAD in the five-year period between 2004 and 2008. These values are in constant 1999 dollars. The benefit estimates of the C-SHRP and SHRP products provided by this study are considered to be conservative. Also, the estimates do not include benefits from products that were not evaluated in this study and benefits to the federal and municipal sectors. It should be noted that the provincial highway infrastructure represents only about 25% of the total highway infrastructure in Canada. |
