Description
Summary:In the analysis of complex survey data, it is often crofilm Inc. important to estimate distribution functions and quantiles. For example, data from the U.S. Third quantiles. For example, data from the U.S. Third (NHANES III) are used to estimate the population quartiles of physiological characteristics like serum lead and serum cholesterol. This paper discusses three limitations in the estimation of distribution functions and quartiles from complex survey data: functions and quartiles from complex survey data: the complex sample design', and related constraints on customary quadratic-form test statistics. First, we study the effect of rounding error on quantile estimators and develop some diagnostics to identify specific variables for which rounding error may be a serious problem. Second, we discuss construction and serious problem. Second, we discuss construction and serious problem. Second, we discuss construction and Finally, the eigenvalues of misspecification effect matrices are often used to modify customary quadratic form test statistics; and the associated eigenvectors convey information regarding the sensitivity of a given test. Simulation-based reference distributions are used in exploratory analysis of estimated misspecification effect matrices. These ideas are applied to data from the U.S. Third National Hea1th and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III).
