| Summary: | The purpose of this study was to determine and compare film Inc. the perceptions between elementary administrators and selected teachers of teacher involvement in state- mandated site-based decision making in the Conroe Independent School District. The study focused on five decision areas mandated by Senate Bill 1 in Texas that included planning, budgeting, curriculum, stating patterns and school organization, and staff development. Forty questions on the Teacher Involvement and Participation Scale, Version 2 survey were analyzed. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used throughout the study. A one-way Analysis of Variance and a Mann-Whitney U test were used to determine statistical significance. The data revealed elementary administrators perceived teachers were more involved in site-based decision making than the teachers perceived themselves to be in all decision areas. The perceptions of the selected teachers indicated they had less involvement in the budget and stating patterns and school organization areas. A parallel study was completed by Kathleen A. Sharples, a doctoral student at Texas A&M University in December, 1998. This unpublished record of study compared the perceptions of secondary school administrators and selected teachers of teacher involvement in state-mandated site-based decision making in the Conroe Independent School District. Some recommendations for future research included the development of a district-level staff-development plan that provides training for K-12 administrators and teachers in the areas of site-based decision making. It was also recommended to supplement the Teacher Involvement and Participation Scale, Version 2 survey with questions that relate to more elective practices in the decision areas mandated by Senate Bill 1 in Texas. |
