Description
Summary:In this research study we have set out to determine the relationships between the function and surroundings of historic structures and the consequent level of their historic integrity. For this purpose, two historic missions located in San Antonio, Texas, the Mission San Antonio de Valera - the Alamo and the Mission San Jose y San Miguel de Ague, were selected. The study determines that the function and the surroundings do affect the historic integrity of these two structures, in that, when a historic structure is rehabilitated to accommodate a compatible or a new function, it results in a chain reaction that affects other variables, specifically the users and the acoustical environment of the historic structure. These two variants were also found to have an impact on the historic integrity of the selected structures.
