Description
Summary:The intent of this study was to discover the impact of gender on the success of leadership education. Specifically studied were the self-perceptions of leadership skills and leadership attitude of male collegiate students. Additionally, the effect of previous leadership education and experiences, a course in leadership, and gender make-up of the class were investigated to determine the most appropriate "orientation" for collegiate leadership courses. The purposive sample for this study consisted of male students enrolled in a collegiate academic leadership class. The first part of the study disclosed information concerning all male participants in a leadership class. The second part of the study investigated information concerning the sample of males who participated in the single-gender laboratory setting. Theconclusions of this study found no factor that enhanced group-centered attitude, leader-centered attitude, or Working in Groups. However, it was discovered that the participants' leadership skills perception was stronger following a leadership course. Furthermore, previous leadership experiences and previous leadership education enhanced the skill levels of the participants.
