| Summary: | to measure the effect of a treatment, the "At the Push of a Button'' workshop, on the knowledge, attitudes, and self-perception of skill level of extension agents concerning selected electronic technologies used to produce and deliver educational materials. The second was to compare the perceptions and attitudes of the agents about receiving professional development instruction by distance learning technology before and after the workshop. Methodology The study used a pre-test, post-test, control group design to accomplish its dual purpose by measuring selected knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions prior to the workshop, and again immediately after the workshop. A control group not involved with the workshop was used to establish external validity. The population for the study was county agents who registered for the workshops or in the case of the control group expressed interest in registering for similar workshops. The study took place in December, 1997 and January, 1998. Major Findings The treatment was effective in improving agents' knowledge and self-perceived skills in the selected technologies presented and practiced.2. The treatment was effective in improving agents' attitude about receiving professional improvement via distance methods. This was expressed as an increase in comfort level after the workshop and as a difference between the treatment group and the control group. The treatment had little eject in changing agents' perceptions about technology use. Agents already had a positive attitude about technology use prior to the treatment. 4. The most represented participant in the study was a female county extension agent who had worked for the Extension Service just over thicken years. She had received a B.S. or B.A. degree slightly more than twenty years before the study. |
