Description
Summary:The performance of a brushless permanent magnet motor using
load commutated inverter is studied. The key contribution of
this work is the application of load commutated inverter to
trapezoidal machine, which is being investigated for the
first time. The analysis is done for a motor with two types
of back emf. One is with 1200 crest and the other one is
with 1500 crest. The performance of the drive with different
dc link inductance, under load and speed variation and high
speed operation, has been analyzed. A detailed computer
model capable of predicting the steady state as well as the
transient performance of the drive has been developed.
Several simulations have been done to prove the validity of
the proposed drive as a low cost, simple, and reliable
solution for high volume production as well as its
application in residential and commercial appliances. The
developed control strategy has been implemented on an INTEL
8OC196KD micro-controller board and the overall motor drive
system has been tested in the laboratory.
