| Summary: | The purpose of this study was to obtain data for comparing assessed valuation/expenditures per pupil and academic achievement in: (a) assessed valuation per pupil, (b) regular education expenditure per pupil, (c) non-regular education expenditure per pupil, and (d) administrative achievement as reflected in the aggregate percentage of 11th grade students passing the TEAMS test. The participants in this study were those 12 selected districts in Bexar County, Texas that generate revenue by local tax levy, The data were obtained from the Snapshot Report compiled by the Texas Education Agency's Department of Research and Information (1989), The independent variables were the assessed valuation per pupil, regular education expenditure per pupil, non-regular education expenditure per pupil, and administrative expenditure per pupil, The dependent variable was the aggregate percentage of 11th grade students passing the TEAMS test. The Texas Educational Assessment of Minimum Skills (TEAMS) is a criterion referenced standardized test developed to measure achievement. The results show that there is a significant relationship between assessed valuation and academic achievement as measured by the percentage of 11th grade students passing TEAMS, This relationship indicates that the results of the TEAMS test are dependent on the assessed valuation of the property within the district. The income generated from property values appears to be directly related to the academic achievements of the students in the area, Conversely, those districts with lower property values affect student academic achievement, as evidenced by lower percentages passing the TEAMS test, The researcher found that the data show a threshold assessed valuation of about $115,000 or greater appears to result in greater than 70% 11th grade students passing the TEAMS test, There was no significant relationship between expenditure for regular education such as teacher salaries and other instructional expenditures per pupil and academic achievement as measured by the percentages of 11th grade students passing the TEAMS test, Conversely, a lower dollar amount spent on regular education expenditures did not result in a lower percentage of students passing the TEAMS test, There, was no significant relationship between non-regular education expenditure per pupil and academic achievement as measured by the percentage of 11th grade students passing the TEAMS test. There was no significant relationship between administrative the percentage of 11th grade students passing the TEAMS, |
