| Summary: | Through the use of a Delphi Study, critical tasks were determined for Tech Prep consortia directors in Texas for two time periods, 1994-1999 and 2004-2014. Twenty eight tasks were rated highest priority for 1994-1999 by 65% of the respondents, and seventeen tasks were rated highest priority for 2004-2014. The critical tasks were included in the categories of local and state policies, staff development, articulated curriculum, curriculum and program development, guidance and counseling, marketing, and business and industry collaboration. The largest number of critical tasks identified were in the categories of local and state policies, staff development, and marketing. The study recognized the importance of marketing Tech Prep to administrators, teachers, parents, and students. Also, the study points out the necessity of having: public support at local and state levels, student motivation using non traditional means, staff updated to current legislative and educational reforms, communication skills, and networking with other consortia. The recommendations emanating from this study were the inclusion of marketing Tech Prep with local educators, students, and parents, along with business and industry. It was also noted that training and preparation for the position of Tech Prep consortium director should include a solid background in organization and presentation skills. Implications for further research addressed the critical tasks identified and skills of current consortia directors, role perception by community college presidents, critical tasks used by current Tech Prep teachers, and study of qualifications by existing Tech Prep consortium directors. |
