A Roman emperor decides to marry Bernice, infuriating his former lover, Vitellia, who makes plans to assassinate him. He eventually reconciles with Vitellia, who cannot stop the plot to assassinate the emperor. When she and her conspirator are finally revealed, the emperor forgives both of them.
