| Summary: | The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of Statistical Process Control by the members of the Central Gear Box and Jet Fuel Starter shops at the San Antonio Logistics Center would help reduce parts kit and end item rejects. In order to answer the research questions in this study, data concerning the number of rejects per parts kit and the number of end item rejects was collected by the researcher. A work center team was formed to use the data and put together SPC charts to identify problems and come up with solutions. There were several findings from this study: One, was that there was a reduction in parts kit rejects for the Central Gear Box and Jet Fuel Starter. Two, there was a reduction in the number of end item rejects for the Central Gear Box and the Jet Fuel Starter. Three, is that management support for implementing SPC is very crucial. Four, is that conducting training prior to the implementation of SPC is very important to the success of implementing SPC. There were several recommendations from this study: One, is that the information should be shared with the commander of the SA- ALC. There is valuable information from this study that can be used by other maintenance organizations at the SA-ALC. Two, is that in future implementation of efforts similar to this one, that each reject be weighted by its significance and importance. some rejects are more of a problem than others. Three, is that in future implementation of this type of effort, all of the actions taken be communicated to all of the people involved in the process. This helps set the support of all parties involved in this process. Four, is that when a team or organization makes significant improvements in the future, these efforts need to be recognized. This will help to continue process improvement efforts. |
