520 |a factors on the performance of a manufacturing system is also  
520 |a widely acknowledged. However, developing solution  
520 |a methodologies that simultaneously determine the facility  
520 |a layout and material handling system is a difficult task.  
520 |a This research investigates the integrated design problems in  
520 |a manufacturing systems, then proposes design procedures to  
520 |a solve the integrated design problems. The integrated design  
520 |a in this research refines the distance measurements based on  
520 |a the type of material handling systems being used. It is  
520 |a different than most existing methodologies which either solve  
520 |a a material handling system design problem based on an  
520 |a existing layout, or solve a layout design problem using a

520 |a design problem. The proposed methodologies are illustrated
