Description
Summary:Rotor systems used in modem aircraft engines are subject to
damage when anomalies arise due to extended normal operation
or extreme operating conditions. The incorporation of
electromagnetic bearings in these engines facilitates the use
of an expert system for detection of the anomalies and for
temporary corrective action via the bearing controller. The
present study investigates the use of a fuzzy logic based
expert system on a personal computer for on-line anomaly
detection and corrective action. The expert system is
evaluated on a test rotor with an electromagnetic bearing
controlled by a digital signal processor. The current
research extends previous rotor expert systems by
incorporating corrective action by directly affecting bearing
controller parameters. Also novel is the use of a fuzzy
logic expert system in the LabVIEW programming environment
for a rotor system.
