Description
Summary:Measured and predicted responses of an aeroelastic structure
with continuous nonlinear restoring moments in the pitch
degree of freedom are investigated. Nonlinear responses are
controlled using a unique design which combines cam shape and
spring characteristics to determine the stiffness response.
Experiments and analyses are conducted to determine the
effect of the nonlinear hardening on the system. Limit cycle
oscillations occur for large nonlinear stiffness cases. An
analytical model used by others to study this behavior is
adopted to compare the measured results with predictions.
Agreement between characteristic trends is achieved.
Predicted and measured results are in agreement with other
authors conducting work in this area.
