| Summary: | The purpose of this study was determine if real estate education could be delivered using two-way audio and one-way video to communicate v,/with students at a distant location in a manner that would produce levels of achievement at least equal to traditional classroom teaching methods. Achievement was determined by using statistical measures to evaluate the change in scores between a 40-item pretest and an identical posttest The sample of 53 students in the study came from persons enrolling in an examination preparation course at the Real Estate Institute of Corpus Christi. All participants had completed required real estate courses and were preparing to take the state licensing examination. Participants were stratified according to gender and assigned, in an unbiased manner, to a control or an experimental group. Two hypotheses were tested: that there was no difference in achievement between the control and experimental groups as measured by change from pretest to posttest, and that there was no correlation among the variables of change in score, treatment, and the number of real estate courses taken prior to the study. The study was conducted using identical classrooms for the control and the experimental groups; the course was conducted simultaneously for the two groups. The instructor conducted the class at the originating site V,/with the control group present in the classroom. The distant class was physically separated from the instructor, and communicated with the instructor and the control group via speaker-telephone. Groups received the video portion of the instruction simultaneously, using a computer-aided presentation to display the instructional materials. The conclusions drawn/n from statistical testing clearly supported a failure to reject the null hypotheses-that there was no difference in change scores between the two groups, and that there was no correlation among the variables of change in score, treatment, and the number of real estate courses previously taken. |
