Description
Summary:This exploratory study surveyed 129 lesbians who were in a
current relationship lasting at least six months, and who
lived with their partners. The survey consisted of questions
on psychological health, relationship satisfaction, and
demographics. An attempt was made to replicate Kurdek's work
on relationship satisfaction, to examine the effect of gender
roles on relationship satisfaction, and to examine the effect
of childhood sexual abuse on relationship satisfaction.
Kurdek's findings on marital satisfaction were partially
replicated. Gender roles did not affect relationship
satisfaction in this sample. Sexual abuse did not affect
relationship satisfaction in this sample. There was no
significant differences between couples containing abuse
survivors and couples without abuse survivors. However,
approximately 75 percent of the sample was sexually abused.
