Summary:The internship necessary for the partial fulfillment of the
requirements for the Doctor of Engineering program was
undertaken from June 1993 to May 1994. During the period,
June 1993 to August 1993 the intern was employed by
Statistical Quality Control & Circles Institute at Fond Du
Lac, Wisconsin. Here the intern developed a step-by-step
procedure to apply Taguchi Methods to solve industrial
problems. The intern was employed by Ford Motor Company
during the remainder of the Internship, from September 1993
to May 1994. The intern was assigned to Ford's Cleveland
Engine Plant I located in Brookpark, Ohio. The procedure
developed by the intern was used to solve a cylinder block
honing finish problem at the plant. The intern was also
involved in a parts washer solvent management project under
the auspices of Ford's Waste Minimization initiative. This
Record of Study documents the internship experience.
