The 1st four Cage works are for prepared piano; the 5th-7th works are for piano; the 8th work, a chance composition, is also for piano; the last two works, both based on text from James Joyce's Finnegan's wake, are "sung music, accompanied by tapping on different parts of a piano with its keyboard lid closed." The Monk works, except for Paris (for piano) and Double fiesta (for vocalist and piano duo, performed here by overdubbing), are excerpts from operas or theatre pieces, for piano or vocalisations with piano.
