| Summary: | The major purposes of this study were to investigate selection criteria, training requirements and use of force issues for state police agency Special Operations Units throughout the United States as they relate to standards established by the Federal Court in cases related to Special Operations Units. The findings of this study may offer police administrators, and other interested professionals, information for program development in the area of selection, training and deployment of Special Operations Units. The objectives of this study were accomplished by: 1) identifying instruments which measure selection, training and deployment of police Special Operations Units and incorporating them into a self-reporting fax questionnaire, 2) distributing the questionnaire to the nationwide population of state police Special Operations Unit team leaders, and 3) analyzing the gathered data to address five research questions. |
