Description
Summary:In order to further investigate the genetics of Aegilops
variabilis and the evolutionary relationships between its
chromosomes and thoseof hexaploid wheat, a number of T.
aestivum cv. Chinese Spring-Ae. variabilis disomic chromosome
addition lines have been developed. Morphological and
molecular markers, mainly restriction-fragment-length
polymorphisms (RFLPs), were used to identify the addition
lines. Morphological markers were examined first, followed
by molecular markers. In all, six morphological markers, two
enzyme structural gene loci, Aco-Uvl andAdk-Svl, and 38 RFLPs
markers were localized in Ae. variabilis chromosomes.
Thirteen of the 14 possible addition lines have been
tentatively identified. Evidence from several sources
indicates that each of the 13 lines contains an intact pair
of Ae. variabilis chromosomes. The relationships of Ae.
variabili,v chromosomes in the addition lines to chromosomes
in the ancestral S and U genomes and the A, B, and D genomes
of hexaploid wheat have been tentatively determined. The
chromosomes contained in addition lines C-1, G-1, K-2, K-1,
J-1, N-1, and 1-2 are designated ]Sv, 2Sv, 3Sv, 4Sv, 5Sv,
6Sv, and 7Sv, respectively, and the chromosomes in addition
lines A-1, L-1, F-1, H2, L-2, and D-1 are designated lUv,
2Uv, 3Uv, 4Uv, 5Uv, and 6Uv, respectively. The available
evidence indicates that only the chromosome 7Uv addition line
has not been isolated.
