Summary:This study examined the school learning climate at
selected Chapter I and selected Non-Chapter I schools
in the Northside Independent School District. The
Learning Climate Inventory (LCI) was used to collect
the data from the nine schools that participated in
the study. An analysis of the data led the researcher
to the following conclusions regarding the learning
climate at the schools that were studied: 1.There was
no statistically significant difference in the
learning climate factors of the Chapter I schools
compared to the NonChapter I schools.2. The scores of
the schools within the Chapter I group did show a
significant variance on the factors of leadership,
evaluation, and cooperation. 3.Within the group of
Non-Chapter I schools there was a statistically
significant variance on the factors of leadership and
cooperation. The following recommendations are based
on the results of the study: 1.There appears to be a
need for further training for some campus
administrators in the areas of leadership and group
dynamics. 2.There appears to be a need to
develop a process for input into principal evaluation
by teachers. 3.Principals need to be provided the
training to be able to assess the school learning
climate on their individual campuses.
The following are possible areas for further study: 1.A
study of a larger sample of schools would be beneficial to
ascertain the validity of the results obtained in this study.
2.A study to compare variables other than Chapter I and
Non-Chapter I status, such as school size, experience of the
administrator, and composition of the faculty would be
beneficial.
