| Abstract: | An operationalization of the power theories of G. Willam Domhoff is carried out through the study of a Jewish Fund-raising organization. Members of the Federation's staff, and key leaders are interviewed. Members of key committees are surveyed to determine to what extent Domhoff's power theories are applicable in a voluntaristic setting. The study demonstrates that despite the differences between a voluntaristic and governmental organization there is still a power elite that rules in conjunction with a professional staff. The study further deals with an elite during a crisis situation. The m ass migration of Soviet Jew s is studied to determine how the elite absorbs "new money" while attempting to maintain its power base. |
